I have been working at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems full-time (more than an year)

Pros

The only company that's never had a layoff. Appears to be opportunities for career advancement. Some departments and managers are good people.

Cons

Last 'raise' was embarassing, an insult. Conservative, military environment. 'Good ole boys club'. There are some managers who continue to be promoted in spite of their well known reputation. Upper management seems to ignore complaints about managers who 'produce'. Unless you have no life don't make this place a priority because it will suck you dry, then spit you out. Seems to be the norm with most companies these days.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

When the cost of living far exceeds a salary increase then it's time to reassess priorities - invest in less real estate and more in employee salaries.

    Pros

In my short tenure here, I've come to greatly appreciate the flex time that GA-ASI offers. There is a strong company culture, and people understand that personal life must sometimes take priority over work. It is a very laid back, and fairly stress-free environment. Also, the 9/80 schedule, pension plans, and annual company bonuses are a huge plus.

    Cons

Doesn't appear to be a lot of rapid upward mobility. Despite your hard work ethic or experience, you must still put in "your time" before given a greater opportunity, even if you're bored to tears and obviously ready for a greater challenge. The company focus is also a little off in that they don't seem to care at all about tracking costs or preparing for the long-run. They have such a solid standing with their clients that they're too busy living in the moment. They hire people hand over fist, and the company is growing EXTREMELY fast. This will catch up with them eventually.. but for now (and for the next 10 years), they should be okay..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give greater opportunities for training, growth, and advancement. Just because you won't let us climb the career ladder more quickly doesn't mean we should have to sit here and rot, in the mean time. Say it with me, STIMULATION... Help keep your employees interested and sharp.

Engineers and Manufacturing are treated, while everyone else is neglected

I have been working at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Cutting edge product, excellent benefits, most employees work a 9-80, tuition reimbursement ($5000 per year), good location, nice people. There are lots of people here who love GA-ASI and devote countless hours to ensure our product is the best in the world. Devotion can be taken advantage of by managers and some people get burnt out. The pay is excellent for engineers and manufacturing folks. If you are in a support role, such as IT or Accounting the pay is not so stellar and your at the mercy of the "more important" groups requests and preferences.

    Cons

If you don't work in the Engineering groups or the Manufacturing group you'll be subjected to wait for resources to become available and might see your benefits be reduced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work!
