Pros

Intelligent work force motivated to work with teams. Strong and friendly management rewards those based on performance not how hard you try.

Cons

The company is struggling to keep costs down considering the sequestration. A lot of unknowns in the industry.

Bring more youth into our aging plants to help energize the workforce and change the current culture.

I have been working at General Dynamics C4 Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Some of the best and brightest engineers in industry dating back from the old Motorola days.

    Cons

Continuous layoffs the past 3 years
Increasing attrition rates of best and brightest engineers
No vision nor hope from executive management on what's next after current large programs hit end of life on current large contracts with big engineering staff (ie. JTRS & MUOS).
Business Development team have failed company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire ex-military folks into leadership positions that have network connections in Goverment.

I have been working at General Dynamics C4 Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good employees at lower levels
Attitude of "get the job done"
    Support the soldier first

    Cons

Upper management totally out of touch with lower level employees.
Too much emphasis on meeting financial goals at the sacrifice of customer satisfaction
Promotions based on who you know vs job skills
Layoffs not based on job performance, seems based on "Good Ol Boy"
Moral in the dumps since Layoffs occur without any warning or rationale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You really need to start conversing with employees at lower levels to get the real picture of how the changes you and your staff have made truly affects the Financials. You tell the local Newspapers how important the employees are and tell various Government officials how important it is to keep funding, then turn around and increase insurance cost to employees, reduce pension accrual and eliminate some PTO. Layoff employees and tell people to work harder, then eliminate all raises without eliminating upper management bonus pool. Pushing technology based on financials vs what the customer really wants. Maybe it is time to ask the customer what they want vs telling what they want.
