Pros

Great management team; professional relationships and dynamic synergy between colleagues. The interaction and information sharing make the environment a great place to work.

Cons

There are conflicts between sister companies, like GDIT. Competing and teaming for business poses challenges. The conflicts can create frictional atmosphere on efforts where we are teaming partners.

  1. Interesting work, but management is top heavy and in a lot of instances do not have the foresight to succeed.

    Pros

The work is very interesting and the engineer you work with are talented.

    Cons

Too many managers that seem to react instead of having a good road map or understanding of what it takes to succeed. Always playing catchup (i.e. in crisis mode). A lot of people have been working 60+ hours for years now.

    Advice to Management

If you are serious about a getting into a business, back it up with funding necessary to succeed. Our competitors do. Also too many middle management. You are getting direction from too many individuals that do not communicate with one another.

    Pros

There is a lot of job security working for a government contractor. Once you are hired, it seems virtually impossible to lose your job. If you like to sleep at work, this is a great place.

    Cons

As a software development company, GD is terrible. The process for developing software is very far behind the industry standards. Process is much more important than getting anything actually done. It doesn't matter how hard you try to be successful and work hard, you are always pushed to be a mediocre contributor. At GD you will simply be another warm body which they will constantly push you towards being just average. They will constantly pitch flexible work hours and great people, however, the hours only flex upwards, often demanding at least 48 hours of work. The amount of hours you work is MUCH more important than the amount of work you complete. If you slept for 30 hours a week and did 20 hours of work, you would be valued more than if you worked 40 hours straight.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees more than immediate financial returns on projects. If you don't value your talent it will cost you much more as people realize that it's just a meat grinder and it becomes harder and more expensive to recruit talented individuals.
