I worked at General Dynamics Mission Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Many advancement opportunities, many learning opportunities. Flexible schedule and decent benefits. Great people to work with and you will make many friends. The work is fun but also challenging. Performance reviews can be utilized for your own personal career growth.

Cons

Layoffs / work forecast directly affected by yearly Federal defense budget. If there are delays in the budget being passed, the company doesn't receive anticipated work and may be forced to lay off people, there seems to be this threat every year.

I have been working at General Dynamics Mission Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good folks to work with

    Cons

One trick Pony BD folks ridding on Engineers vision and natural transition. BD vision of Mr. Magoo. Unwillingness to share or view products that work in the real world. Continuously selling products the customers doesn't want. No validation of products already sold

    Advice to Management

INC 2 management as a whole is horrible. Look at the meeting calendars then see what work is actually produced from the meetings 0% Meetings about the meetings

Talented employees, poor corporate leadership and lack of identity.

I worked at General Dynamics Mission Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Superb and talented employees. They work their hearts out for their customers and to maintain excellent personal performance standards. Local management are good people albeit with little authority. Fair salaries.

    Cons

Snide attitude of corporate leadership toward employees, you know, the ones that come up with the great ideas? Raises are minimal, around 0%-1% and benefits are cut in both good and bad times. Professional development, career advancement and financial incentives have pretty much vanished and replaced with trivial "attaboy" awards. Underwhelmed by corporate leadership - tend to disown mistakes (and there have been some whoppers) and do not give employees a stake in growing the enterprise. No core vision: who are we? Just chasing the next shiny object and throwing away what we can do today?

    Advice to Management

The new president needs to clean house in Falls Church, NOW. Treat your employees like adults and the professionals they are: they're smart, motivated, know their customers and have ideas that can make the company money. Adopt a core identity and constantly rebuild and improve it.
