I worked at General Mills full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

- IT talent is among the best I've seen
- For the most part, Managers are chosen thoughtfully and trained well
- Compensation and Benefit plans are appropriate for a Fortune 500 Company

Cons

- Some managers have no idea who in their organization actually gets the work done, and repeatedly rewards the wrong employees

Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to current managers is to really get to know your employees, their talents, and what their contributions are. Reward those employees on the front lines who are sticking their necks out into the line of fire.

I have been working at General Mills full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people at General Mills are incredibly friendly and genuinely seem to care about one another. There are a lot of great development opportunities at General Mills, especially for young people who are willing to work hard.

    Cons

Lately there has been a lot of change and it feels like General Mills is less focused on work-life balance and more focused on business results.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sometimes when things aren't working, it is not the people, but instead it is broken systems.

I have been working at General Mills full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Salary and benefits are pretty good. Start with 3 weeks of vacation, up to 4 after 5 yrs. Many opportunities in Manufacturing if you're flexible with locations, although some plants are in the middle of nowhere. Very nice corporate office, too bad is in Minneapolis. Great food manufacturing technology. Solid performance in the industry year after year.

    Cons

Big pond with lots of big fish. Takes soo long to implement changes. Preach work life balance but in the manufacturing plants be ready to work 12 hr days almost every single day, even plan on working some weekends with no additional compensation, is pretty much an expectation that you do so. Great corporate jobs, if you are willing to live in the Tundra(Minneapolis)
