I have been working at General Mills as an intern (less than an year)

Pros

They care about the employee and developing the employee and balancing work and life.

Cons

None really. Only that if you're a software engineer, this is more of an application development shop and the pay is less than at other places. However, it's such a nice place, and there is very few layoffs here.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work.

Great benefits, but reduced recently. HR rules the company.

    I worked at General Mills

    Pros

I worked at General Mills for 9 years in Sales. The training and employee development are outstanding. The benefits are great-- vacation, pension, salaries are somewhat not competitive though due to other benefits. Great brands to represent.

    Cons

Benefits have been reduced lately-- no pension for new hires. You are required to move frequently and no longer have as much influence on where you will end up next. Most importantly I noticed they are taking the emphasis on diversity to a new level and hiring less qualified people over more qualified people and it impacts morale negatively on high performing employees. I warn against working at the Kroger Business Center. I worked in several locations for GMI and it was by far the most challenging culture of any office I worked in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reconsider overemphasis on diversity. Discouraging to highly qualified, high performing employees.

    Cons

You do not truly have much ownership or authority in such a large company.
