General Motors Assembler in Flint, MI:   (Past Employee - 2007)

Pros

The best reason to work at GM is that the pay is decent for the amount of work done, and that you never have to take work home with you when your shift is over. Having a union is of course nice, although it's unfortuante that some take advantage of the union's presence.
I also enjoyed many of the people I worked with. There weren't too many people who were hourly workers that were difficult to work with - on the contrary, nearly everyone seemed to be a pretty good partner when it came to getting the job done at the end of the day.

Cons

Here are some of the downsides of working at G M:

There are no advancement opportunities. The physical labor can be hard on your body after a while, and I imagine thirty years of it can really take its toll. You are seriously treated as a number with seniority attached; this can be disheartening.

Advice to Senior Management

Treat consumers a bit better - I think they got too far into the big truck and SUV market without considering long term consequences.
