Great job, but frustrating at times.

I worked at General Motors

Pros

Plenty of training opportunities for skilled trades, great pay and benefits. Lower and middle level managers are usually pretty decent to work for. Great engineering support.

Cons

Cutbacks have created a ridiculous work load at times. Many of the best managers and engineers have been let go. Future skilled trades hires will still get the same good hourly rate, but with reduced benefits.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership needs to study how things were done at the floor level at Saturn. There is an amazing amount of talent out there that you're no longer utilizing!

    I worked at General Motors

    Pros

Benefits are decent, and pay is also decent in terms of its industry. People are knowledgeable and friendly. The work environment is lax.

    Cons

Things are getting slower here. There is not too much more exciting work to do now that a lot of plants are shutting down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is no leadership at all it seems. Many of the current leaders are just selfish, hiding in their offices.

I have been working at General Motors

    Pros

Older workforce. May be opportunities for younger employees.
Ability to move from one division to another.
    Competitive pay for job titles.

    Cons

    Low employee morale.
    Decreasing benefits.
Lack of advancement opportunities due to downsizing.
Job Insecurity due to outsourcing model.
Expected to work long work hours on an ongoing basis.
Expect employees to be happy to have a job and be happy to expand workload when resources leave without being replaced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change culture to value employees. Need to streamline/eliminate layers of management needed in order to make a decision. Drive decision making to lower levels.
