Former Contractor - Executive Assistant in Warren, MI
Former Contractor - Executive Assistant in Warren, MI

I worked at General Motors as a contractor (more than a year)

Pros

Close knit community with coworkers in same area. Great way to make connections. Able to speak with leadership and communicate ideas and concerns.

Cons

Overtime is looked down upon since you are supposed to finish work in shift. Very stressful with various projects to complete and customers to assist in one day.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire enough people to carry out the designated projects and expected duties instead of trying to have the employees spread so thin to save money.

  1. General Motors Intern

Current Intern - Anonymous Intern in Warren, MI

I have been working at General Motors as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

The people that work here are awesome. As an intern, I never had the feeling of being unable to ask someone for help. People are busy but they are more than welcome to take some time to explain things. They will also take time out of their day to explain what their job is or what their function does. Depending on who you get for a supervisor/manager has a big impact on how your experience is.

    Cons

General Motors is a slower moving company but that comes with size.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use some of your influence to implement what your employees are suggesting. Also, do not put all your effort to reaching the short goals. Try to focus on implementing some of the suggestions from employees and meeting your goals will follow.

Former Employee - Software Developer in Austin, TX

I worked at General Motors full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits like any other big corporations, 2 weeks holiday in december, and hours of no work and getting paid. Way to go GM!!

    Cons

Unethical management from the bosses to HR except if you are an ex Dell employee. Would not recommend a young professional to start his/her career here as it lacks direction in every thing including the traning, no room for growth especially if u have a masters degree, bad management in everything including IT projects undertaking. Choose wisely, do not be swaed with the 6 months salary review, is a lie and promised training is a joke especially if management does not want you to follow standards

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please pay close attention to the innovation center in Austin it is a place that has a lot of politics and unethical behavior openly displayed which will inhibit talent growth among young professionals
