Genesco – “The most enjoyable work experience I have had.”

Employee relations is great. At Genesco, it is easy to balance career and family life. From quarterly staff meetings to encourage the flow of corporate communications to small things like summer picnics and family days at local museums, there are a little of extras boost the overall work experience. The summer-hours program is a real plus. It is a large, and well respected Tennessee company but maintains a small, family and open door policy feel. It is located in a stand alone building with its own parking lot, making the commute each day very easy and accessible--no downtown traffic to deal with!
Cons
There is very little opportunity for career advancement. Once in a position, it does seem that most people stay at that level for the duration of their employment at Genesco. The only opportunity to "move up the corporate ladder" is when an immediate supervisor leaves, and even then little consideration is given to those looking to move up. The job you are hired to fulfill is the one that you will be in. Also, even with several divisions under the Genesco umbrella, there isn't very much interaction with the different companies. Employees of each of the divisions stick to themselves.
Advice to Senior Management
It is a very young company, many young professionals with children work at Genesco. Although the summer hours program is great, it would be nice to have some options when it comes to working flexible hours.
