Genesco – “Journeyz - You can't pay me enough

1.0

Genesco Sales Associate- Journeyz in Nashville, TN:   (Past Employee - 2009)

Pros

Easy to get hired. The shoes are pretty cool, and discount is okay. Good job for high school students, and those gifted in sales.

Cons

I had all of 15 minutes of training. Commision sucks, and managers steal sales often. The products are often overpriced. I don't believe in selling a $10 pack of plain white socks to a mother with small children, when I know she can get the same socks for $3 at Wal-Mart. If the customer only needs one pair of shoes today, why should I be forced to shove four pair down their throats? Hiring practices are also questionable. Store management often took advantage of sales staff, recommending that young girls use innuendo to sell shoes. The managers ruled younger staff by fear, knowing that they don't have many other job options.

Advice to Senior Management

Give store management more pricing power, and trust their knowledge of what their demographics are into. If shoes aren't moving, it's probably the shoes or the prices, not the staff.
