I have been working at Gentiva full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pay, benefits, Gentiva University, great co-workers

    Cons

Overwhelming patient load quite often, you will be asked to document things that you didn't do by case managers to cover their tails, low mileage reimbursement, A LOT of after hours charting that you are not able to get completed in the home. Heavy census load, unrealistic expectations, seeing 10 - 14 units per day! Money is good for when you see the patient but if you do the job the right way, there is no way to get in and out of a patients home in 30 minutes and get all of your charting completed, realistically it will be closer to 45 minutes to an hour and then you have to add drive time in between that and pray that you didn't have to call the doctor and wait on him/her to call you back. Not every patient is 1-2 miles apart so you may spend another 15-30 minutes driving between some of your patients. You don't get paid for charting once you are home in the evenings. You also shouldn't be having to hurry up your visits because you are so full of patients for the day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Home charting time should be paid at least at a base level to compensate or extend the visit to extended visit rate. Therapists are not nurses and shouldn't have to be placed in a position where they are offering or trying to give nursing information.
