I have been working at Gentiva full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Great people to work with; Focus on patient care; Good benefits; Clinicians are very caring and try hard to meet all the needs of each and every patient. PTO time is very generous;

Cons

Work load can be overwhelming; Work in a lifesmart office and the challenges are so overwhelming that it is heart breaking. Struggle to complete workloads day in and day out. Multiple hours to chart which causes high turnover rate.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in individual office management. The branch is the backbone of the company. If they are overworked, unhappy and stressed, it shows and grows. Allow more field staff per office and do not just base everything on the "numbers."

    I have been working at Gentiva full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    All very nice and want to help. Many apologizing for the way supervisors treat the employees. Free food sometimes.

    Cons

    Salary works on getting 30 "units" a week - never know if you'll be able to attain these- could work ten hour days and not get paid for your time; very poor communication; managers too busy to give proper orientation; unbelievable amount of paperwork; if you like to take work home and work on your free time - job is great --- you must like to sit all day to drive from pt to pt and also do charting in your car -- lots of wear and tear on your car -- and barely compensated for gas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Have a better orientation period --- really explain that case mgt is a big part of this job for nurses, as is papaer wrok - explain the pay stub to new employees ----- I don't think even going to the new computers will help iron out the cons of this job - traveling home care is not for everyone

    Pros

    Great field team, rewarding work with families, flexible days,

    Cons

    Little chance for advancement, poor or no raises, mileage rates low, pays less then other hospices in the area, over worked, on call requirements with huge case loads (18-22 pt per nurse), unfair playing field with promotions
