Pros

One of the best schools in some disciplines (IP law, International Affairs, Clinical Research); Decent benefits and respectable salaries Central location with exposure to a variety of social and political events Tuition benefits and substantial financial aid for qualified graduate programs

Cons

Expensive leaving (accommodation, parking) Limited opportunities for career advancement Mid-management and facility support staff is very slow and unresponsive Overpriced benefits for employees

Advice to Management

Take a better care of the faculty, scientists, and researchers - they are the work force and not the administration and the facility support personnel.

  1. GW Housing was a great summer employer and left plenty of time to enjoy vacation.

    Pros

Flexible hours, fair hourly wage, free housing over the summer, overall a very fun and casual summer job.

    Cons

Although some clients could prove to be difficult, there were no serious cons in working for GW Housing over the summer.

  2. GW needs to make a lot of improvements to help its staff and not focus so much on faculty

    Doesn't Recommend
    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Your satisfaction with the job will depend greatly on the unit or department you work in. The university is very silo -ed so if you get in a good unit, you will be ok, but then again will have very little exposure to other areas and colleagues.

    Cons

The university does not look out for its employees. Staff often feel like second class citizens to faculty. The medical benefits are awful. There is no sense of community or school spirit, which is why I entered into higher education. There are few opportunities for advancement.
