I have been working at Georgia-Pacific Corporation full-time (more than a year)

Pros

The pay is not bad and there is an opportunity for advancement. Safety is a value and has good management philosophy and relocation package.

Cons

limited outside training; upper management does not always follow how training say things should go; everything (projects) is rushed; work load is very heavy

Advice to ManagementAdvice

budget for more training and working hour for salary needs a policy

    Pros

The people who work below upper management are some of the best in the industry, unfortunately the upper management lacks the guiding principle of humility which blinds them from awknowledging this.

    Cons

Failure to grasp the true meaning of MBM. No concept of what it takes to retain talent or what competitive pay means. GP is nothing more than a stepping stone to a true career path.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to the CEO, take a long hard look at why GP has such a huge turnover rate and why job recruiters are emabaressed to even try and place people within GP anymore.

Was a great company to work for

I have been working at Georgia-Pacific Corporation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Georgia Pacific is a well established company and would look great on a resume. The company is filled with ethical, hardworking employees that work well together and do their utmost to achieve all of the goals and expectations placed upon them.

    Cons

It is as if employees are set up for failure. They are over-loaded with tasks, assignments and job duties. While they do not have any chance of attaining all of the expectations placed upon them, they go above and beyond to attempt to complete them all in a conscientious and diligent manner. For their hardwork and outstanding efforts, they are rewarded with disappointment for not achieving all of the unattainable list of expectations, little or no pay increases, additional duties, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be understanding of the workload that you have placed on your employees. Realize when you have stretched them beyond anyone's ability. Recognize the work and effort your employees put into the unrealistic duties, even when they know that can't acheive them all. Listen to them. Make sure they are aware of your appreciation. Understand that you have stressed them to the point where they are often exhausted. Take notice of what is accomplished instead of what wasn't. If nothing else, pay attention (and I mean really pay attention) to how much is on your employees plate and evaluate them on their performance given their situation (and don't purposely rate them low so that you don't have to justify the lack of a pay increase), then give at minimum a yearly cost of living increase to those that continue to give all they have to performing their jobs.
