Gibson Guitar – “Worst Corporate Culture Ever...and That's Being Kind”
18 of 18 people found this helpfulPros
The best thing about Gibson is the great musical instruments they make and getting to work with this amazing national brand. There are also many good people who work there, but they never last long.
Cons
To say that there's a leadership problem would be an understatement. There are a number of great, competent employees and even managers there, but the head of the organization tries to lead by fear and intimidation...when he's not the least bit intimidating. Anyone with good ideas and solid leadership abilities would either be fired or leave after they've had enough abuse.
Hard work might be rewarded if management weren't so busy having to watch their backs.
I imagine that Gibson would've been a great place to work without Henry J. but until the majority ownership decides to make a leadership change that is something will likely never happen.
I saw good people come and go on a regular basis. Sometimes by choice, sometimes by force.
Advice to Senior Management
One word: mutiny.
Or just go do something your passionate about and find a place that will treat you well. There were some talented leaders there who were unable to reach their potential at Gibson, and that's a shame.
