I have been working at Gilead Sciences as a contractor (less than an year)

Pros

Company has a strong portfolio, which is only going to get better. Company offers a happy hour ever week which is a good way to wind down.

Cons

Company is still developing so many of the processes have not been solidified. Most openings are for contractors and it takes close to a year to be converted to full time. New Therapeutic Areas piggyback off more established ones, so you don't always know what you're doing is right.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize strong employees who show the drive to move up. Offer them advice on expanding their careers and growing within the company to avoid turnover.

I have been working at Gilead Sciences full-time

    Pros

No one can argue that the company is strong; stock skyrocketing; benefits really good

    Cons

Manager has no experience in what we do yet tries to tell us how to do it; the threat of job security is always there; very high turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

What is the cost of turnover? the company pays very well, yet people leave continuously; take a look at increasing retention.

I worked at Gilead Sciences full-time

    Pros

It feels good to work for a company who's products save lives. The campus and buildings are under constant renovation and improvements.

    Cons

Independent thinkers need not apply. Differing opinions are not appreciated by management. Blindly following management's without question is required. Yes people will do great!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Outsourcing was so yesterday. Read current white papers and see that those who outsourced are now insourcing once again due to lack of quality and performance in third world countries. How can you not know that!

Don't just be happy that managers below you are following the party line. Look into the details of what is really going on.
