I have been working at Gilead Sciences full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Great people overall, employees generally have a sense of purpose. Company is doing great financially, employees are reaping the benefits of growing stocks. Great pipeline, respectable world mission, ESPP have two year lookback. Weekly happy hour, growing company.

Cons

Overworked and undervalued. Salaries are often not as competitive as companies like Genentech. Promotions, recognition is hard to come by. Middle management can get pity and childish, clique-y and often impacts employee moral. Often hires from the outside, assigning outside hires higher leveling/compensation than internal candidates. No work life balance. "Lean" means that they refuse to hire until it's too late and things hit the fan.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on being proactive instead of reactive and perhaps turnover will decrease.

I worked at Gilead Sciences as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

A company with ability to grow
    Co-workers are very helpful

    Cons

The promotions and hires are dependent on how well you get along with the management
    Buildings need upgrading
There are trainings in this firm that are required by FDA and everyone does them. Great, but also there are some trainings that are offered and I found out that are only offered to management level. There are some companies offering to pay for advanced degrees let alone paying for a course offered at the work site. I think the site has to change its look on this approach and encourage people to get the training they are willing to do for the classes offered on site.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire people on not how well you like the people but how well they do their job.
