I have been working at Gilead Sciences full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Decent salary and benefits. Good cafeteria and the gym is not bad.

Cons

Employees do not live their values. Pack dog management with ongoing fights over the leader of the pack. Culture encourages power plays. Senior management retained for longevity and for being lapdogs. Short cuts taken to meet milestones.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house at the top.

I worked at Gilead Sciences full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good salaries and benefits. Many talented and intelligent co-workers. Very profitable organization.

    Cons

Management is proud to state that each employee performs the work of 1.5 employees. No work/life balance whatsoever. Employees will be worked until they drop, then replaced in the blink of an eye. Internal politics are the biggest downfall. Decision makers are set in their ways and are not open to new ideas or practices and manage through intimidation. High turnover makes productivity difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide development and training to managers. At least pretend to have concern for staff well-being.
Company is too large to function with "old boys network" mentality.

I worked at Gilead Sciences full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

They have some good drug products in the pipeline that may really help people once approved. That part was exciting.

    Cons

They still use the "whip and beat method" (to quote another previous employee ) of supervising and "mentoring." Everyone was so burnt out. I would never recommend this company unless they changed their culture, from the top down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be respectful. Treat employees as people, not chained dogs.
