I worked at Glendale Community College (California)

Pros

One of the best cadet training programs in the region compared to other colleges and universities. GCC Police Departments is all about community policing or a systematic partnership to support the educational mission of the institution, and problem-solving techniques, to proactively address the immediate conditions. You have the opportunity to continuously learn and earn certified certificates. Be prepared to put time outside of work.

Cons

Employer will do there best to accommodate your school schedule however personal activities, holidays, and weekends are out. Requires discipline to balance work and school schedule. 20 hr minimum per week, plus on call time, plus mandatory monthly training sessions plus limited vacation time.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have personally attended a few board meetings and agree that it is all politics. People take credit and self promote where it is not warranted and do not take responsibility.

Sense of family remains, for the time being.

Senior leadership is very inexperienced and manages by politics and little else.,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seek guidance from those who have institutional experience. Look for management skills among the current staff and faculty. Let those who you have in positions do their jobs. Don't micro manage.
