Very good marketing internship for those who like to take initiative and work independently

Former Employee - Marketing Intern in Itasca, IL
Former Employee - Marketing Intern in Itasca, IL

I worked at Global Experience Specialists as an intern (less than an year)

Pros

Allowed you to get involved with as many projects that you could handle. Very fun internship if you like to take initiative and work independently a lot. Allowed you to work out of the office on occasion if there was a trade show in town during the course of the internship. Get to work with everyone in the marketing department as well as help other employees with projects from the corporate office in Vegas.

Cons

Only con was that you need some Microsoft Excel experience to do a lot of the responsibilities delegated to you as an intern. No other cons really.

    Pros

GES, an exhibit and event management company has a great deal of potential with regard to the logistics, equipment, and human resources that they have in place. The employees are friendly and helpful. Many have been with the company for five years or more resulting in a wealth of knowledge.

    Cons

My experience in the Pittsburgh office was very frustrating. Management would continuouslly support and even begin the process of implementing new, innovative ideas and then abandon them halfway through. Client management was more or less "keep the status quo". While employees remained with the company, it seemed like most of them had very little desire or motivation for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more aware of your human capital resources. Step outside the box and push the envelope not just with your events, but also with the management of your employees.

    Pros

Pay wasn't bad, benefits could be better. Mgmt willing to do anything an order to make plan if bonuses at stake

    Cons

Don't trust anything you are told, and only half what you can see in writing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try being honest at least one day a week.
