Current Employee - Vice President  in  New York, NY
Current Employee - Vice President in New York, NY

Pros

* working with smart people
* interesting finance projects like pricing or PNL (at least from a front office tech perspective who likes finance)
* good hours (depending on which group you are I suppose)
* same kind of pay in technology organization (regardless back office, front office) (not sure if this is actually a good thing)

Cons

* huge pay gap between tech vs. sales trading strats even though tech and strats jobs are blurring
* very low salary if you are a new tech analyst coming onboard (it used to be OK, but now since Google and other startup in NYC are getting bigger, IBs tech salary are not keeping up)
* lots of talent exodus recently

Advice to ManagementAdvice

GS always preach that the firm is essentially a software technology company because tech headcount is the biggest right now. But obviously this is only a recruiting slogan.
* need to make tech pay more competitive starting from new hires to mid-career
* need to have a better career mobility, especially across division / business unit
* need to be more aggressive in differentiating top performers / sleepy backwater

Current Employee - Vice President - Project Manager in Jersey City, NJ

    Pros

    Top Training and Exposure
    Top Systems
    Cuttint Edge Projects
    Can be exciting
Room for Growth (though see the cavaet)
    You will be very marketable
Understanding about work/life but depends on department and management

    Cons

Growth is there, though lots of politics and completey depends on your department and manager's standing.

Unfortunately once you move up becomes more dog eat dog and self promotion vs team work and good of firm

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To retain good people you must eliminate management that serves their own interest vs people's.
Management needs to move to a teamwork environment vs. self advancement. Good people leave
