I have been working at Goldman Sachs full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Good pay - Excellent management. Managers are always looking to help you out in anyway and listen to your issues if you have any. - Excellent feedback system - If you're interested in more of finance and less of technology, this is the perfect place to be

    Cons

    - Too much of context switching. You'd have to switch between supporting users, handling production issues and doing your project work. The switch is so often that you don't feel a sense of accomplishment of a task by the end of the day. - There's very little to learn being a technologist. You'd learn about finance and the markets, but your technology learning curve flattens pretty quickly. - Very bad work life balance. People tend to come in by around 10 and stay back till 8. Though the managers are perfectly ok by you coming early and leaving early, you wouldn't feel good about leaving early cuz almost the entire team would still be there working.

    Advice to Management

    - It would be great if you could cut down the context switching and make the employees focus on a single task at a time. I believe they would be more efficient and happy that way.

Heavy work load and pressure, favoritism, No difference in pay for any tech

I have been working at Goldman Sachs full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You will find highly motivated and talented employees among the pool, and some stones-in-wooden box type(who does nothing but, making noise) managers, leads who always pester the employees. Brand value in the resume, if feel, but not sure until a get a good job based on this.

    Cons

Heavy work load, Strict time lines, adhoc procedures, No employee benefits( they say every thing is covered in year-end bonus), no team parties, everything will be dutch parties, Working timings range from 12 to 16 hrs a day and 7 days a week( not typo its 7) . Year end bonus is like a carrot and stick. Bonus is based on company performance and managers impression on you, nothing else matters, even if you work more than others and prove yourself, at the end bonus is distributed like a piece of cake with favoritism. The more you talk non-sense to your manager and team meeting, the more you get.

    Advice to Management

Real work force in tech should be motivated and appreciate for real work they do. Not some manager who, doesn't know anything and just gives PPTs to upper management. Treat employee as human being first and then a resource, not like a machine. Judge by impact/work done by employee, not by his manager's year end review which was copy pasted for every one.
