I worked at Goldman Sachs full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Access to employee's Private Wealth Management account and Goldman Research. Company does some interesting things for employees.

Young people ! A lot of young people hungry for success but ... (see below).

    Cons

Politics is bad, everybody can have opinion about everything and block progress without any particular knowledge about the subject. There is a lot of schmoozers who hve spent years at the company are not getting fired because of the years spent.

Insecurity and incompetence at TI is at a very high level, other divisions are much better but TI does not have P/L valuation and has really diverged from the mainstream business (though this is true for most of the IT's in financials).

Young people are hired but not given challenges and opportunities. They really hve to become schmoozers to get any recognition and spend 10 years to see growth (if they are not schmoozers). If you are a schmoozer, you can make VP in 5-6 years.

Company is also known for hiding its titles, they tell you there are only Associates, Vice Presidents and Managing Directors. Well, it turns out to become MD you have to go through 4 promotions from Vice President and each one takes two years (exceptions are possible but rare).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Re-organize TI, it is horrible. And provide more transparency into titles.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    Approves of CEO

I worked at Goldman Sachs full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Extremely bright colleagues
Professionals at all levels have a lot of responsibility
Employees have a sense of urgency and ownership over tasks
Growth opportunities if you can navigate the culture
    Networking is encouraged
    Competitive compensation

    Cons

People are often promoted to roles in which they manage people without being screened for adequare management skills - contributes to turnover
Divisions are staffed very lean - more hours and work per person than at competitors
Hard to discern if employee feedback is taken into account on a consistent basis

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leverage the 360 interview process a lot more in improving the management of human capital
Listen to constructive call-outs from exit interviews
Be proactive in identifying and interacting with young talent

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook
    Approves of CEO
