I worked at Goldman Sachs as an intern for less than a year

Pros

Smart specialized people, very collaborative, result driven, mobility opportunities, challenging work, a lot of responsibility early on.

Cons

Due to the size of the organization, there exist some bureaucratic processes. It is hard to make partner.

I have been working at Goldman Sachs full-time

    Pros

    - Professional and excellence-promoting culture
    - Lot of motivated and good folks around

    Cons

    - Not truly global. If you are performing at your best and perform at par or better than your colleagues in high-cost location, you are bound to get disappointed after a while. You deliver more and get less as compared to the money made by your NY counterpart. Effectively, the financial reward for superior performance gets decided by geography.

I have been working at Goldman Sachs full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Amazing, super smart people and incredible pay... I'd say it is an amazing place to work coming straight out of University, because it really establishes your CV.

    Cons

The stress, the ridiculous face time culture, the backstabbing and the police state style form of management - sounds obvious now, but not the most fun place to work!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what it is that you are doing. The model at GS is incredibly successful for good reason - thanks to their brand name, they are able to churn out the best and brightest and having them slug it out to get to the top. They take a 100 kids who have never failed at anything and tell them that only 10% will succeed. Which, if you think about, is what cold blooded capitalism is all about really!
