I have been working at Golfsmith full-time (more than an year)

Pros

-constantly opening new stores across the country.
-great chance for promotion from within.
-everyday talking about something you enjoy (golf).
-fellow employees share common interests.
-flexible schedule, if you need a certain day off the schedule can reflect that.
-shorter hours than a lot of other retail stores.

Cons

-working close to holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas).

Advice to ManagementAdvice

More hours for training employees on product knowledge to better serve the customer.

    Pros

    Excellent product offerings and onsite club testing facilities and equipment,which is superior to other retail competitors. Good discounts for employees for merchandise and services.

    Cons

    Training is informal and written procedures are lacking. Management does not seem to truly care about the emloyees and rarely asks or implements employee improvement ideas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Demonstrate more interest in feedback from subordinates which is intended to improve company performance and show more concern about resolving the ongoing struggles of their employees. Formalize training and document work procedures, recognizing that increased productivity and less errors could be realized at a relatively low cost.

    I worked at Golfsmith full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    they spend money send you for an extensive training program away from home...give you access to reaching buyers and regional manager ...provide great in store training for caddies

    Cons

    Little follow thru from upper mgmt...buyers respond too little too late...product always behind the demand chain instead of ahead. Pay is terrible for most of staff who are doing a great job..hence employee dissatisfaction for a job well done. No profit sharing so same goes for hard working store mgr. Suggestions aren't taken well since this is a huge corp run from a central buying office . With shareholders to answer to employees will be last. UPPER mgmt changes direction constantly by having you hire then fire. You are set uo for failure and not coached to succeed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen to mgmt team in each store or why hire them. Take a lesson from Apple and make employees. Happy at work and they will perform and love coming to work for you. Give everyone more responsibility and credit as they are far better than you know!
