    I worked at Goodwill full-time

    Pros

You will receive paid time off.

    Cons

New Management made it their mission to get rid of all employees hired under the former store manager. Employees were either fired or quit. Next, every week new employees were hired, and they quit 2 days to week after being hired. Also, management talked down to employees. If you tell one manager something in confident, he/she will go tell the other manager this information. Finally, unfortunately customers have to wait in long lines to pay for items, because they are short staffed in the front of the store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend less time in the office, and more time on the floor helping employees with customers. Also, find out what problems employees are having that prevent them from completing their assignments.

I worked at Goodwill part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Maybe the sense that you are giving back to the community.

    Cons

But Goodwill politics and practices internally are dysfunctional at-best. In fact, Goodwill Industries was just publicly listed by the Human Rights Commission (HRC) as one of America's top 50 worst charities. This should tell anyone out there about its workplace culture and climate--fake, deceptive, aggressive and callous management empowered to mistreat employees, and just a plain ol' stressful, dirty job with wages just slightly above minimum wage for everyone except the management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire managers who are compassionate, show care and concern for others, listen, are required to take diversity workshops and training, have an education beyond high school--say, a BA or BS in Business Management--all of the professional requirements of the real business world. Perhaps just like the name says--to provide "Goodwill" would be novel too.
