Former Employee - Tire Sales in Raleigh, NC
Former Employee - Tire Sales in Raleigh, NC

I worked at Goodyear full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Good hourly wage, plus commissions. Good co-workers. 3 of the 4 managers that I worked under were excellent; the 4th, while good with customers, wasn't so great with employees. Employee discounts were very good. A very good product to sell, both in the Goodyear and Dunlop lines.

Cons

Corporate, at times, seemed to be out of touch with what really was happening, in the day-to-day operations, but still better than some other places I've experienced.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some time in your stores, not just observing, but actually selling and getting your hands dirty. See what the rank and file are really experiencing. Yes, most of you got your start at that level, but that was 20 to 30 years ago. Much has changed, since then.

  2.

The pay is exceptionally poor, any raise in pay is so low that it's insulting.

    Pros

    Sorry can't think of any.

    Cons

Low pay and poor commissions. Corporate doesn't understand that it takes money to make money, for example how often do hear Goodyear advertize a tire sale. Local management could careless about their employees you are just a pawn who can easily be replaced especially in this economy. In addition you get to work most holidays.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees better and maybe your turnover will drop and sales increase due to a more experienced staff. I would also suggest that they try advertizing a tire sales on maybe T.V. or Radio. I would probably drop using the stupid blow up characters.
