It's all about the politics. Not about abilities or work ethic.

I worked at Goodyear full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Compensation is among the best in the industry. Most people who work there are very nice and helpful. Job security.

Cons

They feel that they pay you well enough that they own you- your time, your opinions and your thoughts. There is a very rigid line of communication up the hierarchy. Those who are put in the position to talk to management are those who are willing to have their ideas and opinions told to them by others.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open to new ideas. Listen to all employees- not just the "yes men". If you don't you won't know what is really going on.

I have been working at Goodyear full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The team i work with is really a stellar team, the managers (while somewhat lazy) do know what they are doing and didn't just fall into their positions
the lead tech is kind of a ball buster, but if you can put up with his nonsense will teach you more than you would ever learn by yourself
Its a starting job unless you already know all your stuff, so i knew what i was getting into

    Cons

very disorganized system of how labor is split between the people working on commission.... if you have a tech that is a god at what he does, they will ignore the lower guys and give him everything to prevent him from quitting
everything is based off of percentages... however doing shop maintenance doesn't mean anything but you still get grumped at if the shop looks dirty

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

pay your people and your people will do good work... really, can't people figure this out?

I have been working at Goodyear full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good pay, good 401K, good people.

    Cons

Still the same good 'ol boy network that existed 25 years ago. It's not what you know, it's who you know. No accountability and very few people get fired for not performing! There are way too many long-timers here so no room for advancement (since the long-timers aren't going anywhere)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A little less talk and a lot more action. Start mixing things up and make some long overdue changes.
