It's all about the politics. Not about abilities or work ethic.

I worked at Goodyear full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Compensation is among the best in the industry. Most people who work there are very nice and helpful. Job security.

Cons

They feel that they pay you well enough that they own you- your time, your opinions and your thoughts. There is a very rigid line of communication up the hierarchy. Those who are put in the position to talk to management are those who are willing to have their ideas and opinions told to them by others.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open to new ideas. Listen to all employees- not just the "yes men". If you don't you won't know what is really going on.

I have been working at Goodyear full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay, good 401K, good people.

    Cons

Still the same good 'ol boy network that existed 25 years ago. It's not what you know, it's who you know. No accountability and very few people get fired for not performing! There are way too many long-timers here so no room for advancement (since the long-timers aren't going anywhere)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A little less talk and a lot more action. Start mixing things up and make some long overdue changes.

All work no play. Living to work here not working so you can live. Spend more time at the shop than with your own Family

I have been working at Goodyear full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Its a job and that's it.

    Cons

They work you to death store manager does not know how to write a schedule and changes day to day. He will have you scheduled off you make plans then he changes it for you to work that day. I have no home life or life outside of this place. Very low pay for someone who has ASE. Its kind of hard to work and do your job when u know that another employee makes more money than you holds no ASE has no schooling and you do more work than them and out perform them. there is no advancement unless you kiss ass and talk badly about your fellow employees. They don't promote within the company rather hire an outside person to come in so they can pay them less than you would if promoted. Half of the shop equipment is in poor shape and the other half don't even work. Have a shop manager that yells at employees for no reason and a store manager that will and has done anything about it. Watched him yell at another employee in the shop and in front of a customer as well. If someone tells you that this is a great company to work for they lie and are one of those brown nose people and done have a back bone to stand up for them self's and let the company walk all over you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Store manager learn how to write a schedule hire and keep a full staff so you don't burn out your employees. Deal with conflicts don't run from them and act like they never happened. Shop manager get your anger under control.
