Excited about all the opportunities but the culture is very, very reluctant to change.

I have been working at Goodyear

Pros

Strong brand and marketing images (the blimp!); challenging business opportunities; lots of opportunities to move into different jobs; lost of business and process expertise;

Cons

If Goodyear could speak it would tell you that it just wants to make tires and not be bothered with anything else (ie H.R. updated working environments, work life balance). Some support areas of the business are 20 years behind in implementing current business practices (IT for instance). Lots of silo and is run more as 4 regional companies than as a global enterprise.

Great name and brand. Good on the resume. Antiquated culture

    I worked at Goodyear

    Pros

    Good pay
    Good brand and name recognition
Great company for those who enjoy networking and playing politics

    Cons

Culture - Antiquated culture. Mentors are more about learning the culture and getting promotions than learning to do your job well.
Strategic vision from the top down is minimal. Everyone is tactic-oriented but rarely understand or see the big picture.
Overly Detailed/Data Driven - A culture that rewards trivial knowledge
Work Life Balance is Lip Service - Leaving at 5pm means you are a slacker
Diversity is non-existent especially in leadership
Internal Focus - Efforts have been made to bring outsiders into the company but the culture is so traditional and anti-progressive, progressive ideas meet far too much resistance to gain traction.
Overly data-driven - Over obsession with data and information delays decision making.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value diversity in practice, not just as words on a page. Disengage leadership from tactical level operations and empower employees. Be more strategic oriented.
