Cons

No career growth.
Half the time you feel if you are actually doing anything useful.
Very frustating and depressing at times.

Advice to Senior Management

Diversify into more areas besides the "core" area of search. Google has so much cash -- use it.. For example, consumer devices.. phones, video games, set-top boxes, etc...

I'm pretty sure

"Half the time you feel if you are actually doing anything useful." and
"Very frustrating and depressing at times."

has (eventually) applied to every job I've ever had. It's called "burnout". Welcome to the club!

I have personally felt that work is getting more boring and very maintenance-type. One has to be very lucky to get in the innovative groups. Such types are very hard to find. Most often than not engineers are stuck in the rut.
