Pros

Lots of very smart people; interesting, real world problems; lots of resources and data. Great benefits and employee-friendly atmosphere. Transparent review process.

Cons

Lots of programming overhead make some simple tasks very difficult. Everyone spends a lot of time at work. They have family-friendly policies, but it seemed like the culture was to work not just very hard, but also very long. The pressure to ship code means you might have a lot of all-nighters.

Great experience but not very different from other large tech companies.

    Pros

+ great brand to represent if you work in staffing, people are really excited at potentially exploring an opportunity w/ Google + it's pretty neat to be working for one of the best tech companies, you feel like you're in the midst of everything technology + perks are great; 3 meals a day, snacks/drinks, frequent events/happy hours onsite, if you need something you can typically just get it (keyboards, mice, special headsets, extra monitors, etc) + flexible hours, occasionally allowed to work from home, easy to take a day off here and there + fun coworkers + huge resume boost, probably the biggest pro IMO + compensation (as a contractor) is pretty good + the systems in HR/staffing are pretty impressive

    Cons

    - massive company, 70k+; its tough for you to have impact - political, to rise you pretty much have to be a workaholic who is loved by everyone.. if you aren't social w/ your team, you're treated like an outcast. - age discrimination, the interview process really does favor new grads and those w/ under 5 years of experience.. thus making every 23 year old w/ an ivy league degree on linkedin a target - recruiters/sourcers are mostly incompetent InMail machines who were jocks (or bros) in high school/college, and try to pretend to be "nerdy" or different.. it's quite painful - the top performers are those reaching out to thousands of candidates per month - limited growth for those in staffing - boring work, very little interaction w/ technical staff, hiring managers, etc - Google uses very unprofessional vendors to manage contractors - the attention put on diversity recruitment is appalling and should be illegal - recruiters push certain job roles on applicants/candidates to fulfill personal goals - employees tend to think if you aren't working for a silicon valley company, you're a no body and not worth their time

    Advice to Management

Have a more thorough interview process for contractors and hire a lot less of them; way to inflate the market Google!
