I have been working at Google as a contractor (more than an year)

Pros

You get to say you work for Google and there are a lot of fun, nerdy, impressive people to work with.

Cons

Not a lot of non-engineer opportunities. Not a lot of opportunities to move up.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be nice to contractors and give them more opportunities to convert. Seems a waste to train someone and then let them go.

Great perks to retain overqualified staff usually doing trivial work

I have been working at Google as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Google perks are best in the industry and Founders and Sr. Management have done well to invest in attracting and retaining talent. The work place is really enjoyable and there is always excitement in the air about new technology.

    Cons

Far too many overqualified people doing trivial work. Here even minions have minions of their own on contract to do even smallest of tasks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hiring practices are strange and often give too much power to one individual to influence the decision. This policy would work great if everyone you have hired is already perfect. But there are some bad apples, and they are setting up barriers for smarter people to get in and work.
