I have been working at Gordon Food Service part-time (less than an year)

Pros

401K, Profit sharing, bonus program, medical insurance for PT and FT

Cons

Company wants to start you at the bottom and work you through the position regardless of you degrees or work experience. It is hard to get full time. You have to learn the company on your own by researching the internet, Homeplate or ask a lot of questions.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better new employee training program instead of the mile high view. The company has so many divisions its hard to connect how they all function together.

I have been working at Gordon Food Service full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Not much to say here that isnt offered else where... huge 10% off employee purchases, Medical for full timers. Some things you dont get elsewhere is; you get to work with bags of meat leaking blood and spoilded greens. Also Fun videos to train you.

    Cons

Required District activites people really dont want to do, ask them to be honest and they may even tell you. Required out of store get togethers at Christmas time. Full Timers have to work a scheduled 50 hours a week. GM smoked out front of the store and in backroom door area, not fun for non smokers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You sure talk allot about GFS culture but it ends there. I never got a sense they cared about the employees personal lives or work life balance at all. Also If they cared about customer service they should test applicants english skills.

    "Clicky" managers and district managers.

I have been working at Gordon Food Service full-time

    Pros

Acceptable pay but they will take years off your life to get it. Benefits are ok but not really better than similar jobs. 401k package.

    Cons

"Clicky" managers and district managers. If you are not accepted, you might as well look for another job.

Hard labor environment. Even with past MGR experience they really care more about your ability to lift heavy boxes over your head than your skills as a leader. 50+ hour work week plus required off hour functions with mandatory attendance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don’t treat experienced new managers like cart boys. Allow people to have a life outside work. Train your new hires better.

Very uncomfortable dress code for the hard labor your doing. Some stores play inconsistent (old) music depending on the taste of the GM and not the customer demographic.
