I have been working at Gordon Trucking

Pros

Terminal is close to my home, and when you start you generally will run west but after that good guess where you will go. Insurance is one of the better ones available

Cons

The #1 problem,is the slow moving truck, poorly maintained, they are the belief that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and if it is broke, and only your creature comfort, forget it!. Good thing they have prepass because you probably will not pass DOT inspections, with the tires on your tractor or the junk trailers you end up pulling quite often. They have a slew of brand new ones, no telling where they happen to be, I haven't seen one in quite a while. There is NO raises, No safety bonus, No fuel mileage bonus. You have to keep on them about your home time, because it is the only benefit you have. They will run you to death, surprised when you claim to be sick, and still want you to keep running, Personal or family life, forget it, you have none

I have been working at Gordon Trucking

    Pros

GTI, Gordon Trucking, Inc., has a great group of customers, providing year round employment for drivers. Every company has fluctuations, Gordon is well positioned, even in slower seasons and bad economic times. Their pay is competitive. Their benefits are competitive. They try to help with my needs for time off, though this can vary with individual dispatchers.

    Cons

Like most employers these days, Gordon is trying to cut costs to survive and thrive in this tough business environment. So wage suppression is an issue. Veteran drivers are feeling this heat from the company, feeling like they have a target on their back. If the leave GTI, where would they find the same pay level elsewhere? So those drivers are fearful. New drivers are coming in several pennies below what it was just two years ago.
On top of that, the company is cooperating fully with CSA2010, so we are feelling that pressure too. Drivers are worried about losing their jobs for reasons that didn't used to be an issue.
Company drivers have to pay for our own truck washes. I wouldn't mind if my name was on the truck, but it isn't, so Gordon should pay for this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your drivers don't feel "ownership" at GTI. At one time, there was a feeling of "family" in the company. That is long gone. Drivers don't feel they have input on important moves within the company.
Worse, we feel "bossed" by our dispatchers, who bully us by lying, condescending, manipulating behaviors.
It is the drivers who are the face of GTI in serving the customer, it is really the driver who brings money into the company. So why are we treated as second class employees.
I wish I could feel proud to work here, but some days I feel very discouraged about the leadership by Steve Gordon.
