I worked at Government of Canada full-time (more than a year)

Pros

Ton of opportunities across many job categories.
Strong benefits program.
May get interesting and rewarding work.

Cons

Some departments operate in a very old fashioned manner.
Decisions may not always be based on management expertise but rather political imperatives. This can be very frustrating at times.
Advancement is often based on seniority rather than performance.
