I have been working at Grand Canyon University

    Pros

If you enjoy helping others succeed and pursue higher educational goals, this is definitely the place to be an employee. I take great pride in helping others succeed in reaching their educational potential and share in their excitement of reaching the pinnacle of education -- commencement.

    Cons

Very little opportunity for internal promotions, especially if one happens to fall within the age protected class. Above 75% of promotees and new hires fall in the category of 20-30 something, leading some to conclude that promotions and postions for anyone older than 30-something is definitely not going to happen. The HR department is not one to be trusted by any employee because there is no fairness being dealt whenever an employee makes a complaint. There are no succession plans in place to assist employees with preparing for possible promotions -- HR is there at the will and discretion of the CEO only.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide employees with succession plans and programs to assist in interal promotions. Identify specific KSAOs for every position, and do not disregard them as in the past, keep them updated, and promote training for needed skills for internal candidates.
