Grand Valley is a large school that tries to function like a small school. Staff are very unprofessional.

Pros

If you don't value quality, professionalism, or making a name for yourself, Grand Valley is a great place to work!

Cons

Very disorganized and impossible to find information you need.

Advice to Management

Staff members should behave like professionals. Too often I overhear crude comments from full-time staff. It is impossible to find answers to your questions unless you suck up to the head of each office! You will never receive feedback for your concerns - instead, staff offputs the blame for their lack of knowledge on others, leaving inquirers without answers. Please improve communication and standardization between departments, for example between Events Services and Facilities.

    Pros

Nobody really wants to be the person asking for money from alumni, but without financial contributions every single university would suffer. So with that said, I think GVSU does a good job handling this position. They do their best to keep the atmosphere fun and energetic, especially on nights the callers need it most.
Your hours are set so you always know when you're working, and it's pretty easy to pick up more if you want them.

    Cons

Some people you have to call can be incredibly rude, but you have to keep their perspective in mind too. If you don't know how to let things roll off your shoulder, I don't suggest applying for TOP.
You also have to call during the evening, and that can interview with other activities around campus.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the positive atmosphere, because the best part about this job is the environment and co-workers.
