Poor Canadian leadership at a shrinking company in a declining industry

Toronto, ON (Canada)

Current Employee – been working at Grand & Toy

ProsAt the highest level, the marketing strategy is defined by two customer segments - small and large. If you are good at selling a plan attached to this - even if it has no real metrics for success or failure - you will have a long tenure with little professional satisfaction. The Business Development and Sales teams are the only reason that any salaries are paid. Work for them.

ConsAbsent leadership with no accountability to the the parent company. Money is lost year after year with no change in senior leadership - only job losses for those who are required follow their direction.

Advice to Senior ManagementMarketing senior leadership (Director and above) need to be accountable to hard numbers. Ensure that at the start of the year, senior leadership has put in place a detailed plan, created with the knowledge and buy-in of employees. Break the plan down to quarterly goals and allow employees the ownership and respect to see these goals through without disruption or priority change.
