Pros

The most attractive thing about for working at Group Health is it's mission to provide affordable excellent healthcare. Great company with history of leading change in healthcare. Wonderful people to work with who care about what they do.

Cons

There is too much micro management by upper management and a lack of empowerment and trust for managers and employees below the director level.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue LEAN work and make sure you "walk the talk"

    Pros

    Great people, very community-minded organization, good benefits, a strong focus on doing the right thing for customers and patients and each other. Employees form long-term friendships that extend past the workday. The company encourages & supports volunteerism.

    Cons

    Fuzzy priorities and processes, lots of silo thinking, few career succession paths. E.g., an enterprise strategic plan was adopted 2 years ago and the last published update was 1 year ago. Individual departments or even teams adopt rules that hinder other workflows without any attempt at outreach or collaboration.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Learn transition management! You can't change the way things work by issuing a re-org email or publishing a policy. It takes real planning and time investment to educate people on the why/what/how of a shift in corporate priorities or methods.

    Over processing, long time to make decisions. Challenges to growth. Danger of becoming niche player with little impact as national model.

    Live up to your heritage. Offer choice product. Become national model for reform.
