Pros

Awesome place to work as a developer. Engineering is still very small - they have some of the best people around. Work hours are still sane - not bad compare to other startups. A lot of exciting things to be built and a great opportunity to learn and grow

Cons

The press seems to be very anti-groupon nowadays, which is unbelievable. Groupon still has a lot of potential which people fail to understand - I am sure Groupon will go a long way

Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, but manage external relations better. The company has a lot of potential in terms of engineering - need to grow it as an engineering company, rather than as a sales company

    Pros

They recognize and reward talent. If you can get the job done, whether it is selling, managing people, or creating a new product, it gets recognized and you are top of mind when big roles open up or get created. The atmosphere is casual and fun but direct. Most people are no BS.

    Cons

Constant change. It still moves at the pace of a startup so you have to be ready to be flexible and adaptable. You can't wait for perfection before acting. Now that the company is bigger, this can mean that it is harder to change, but there is always a way to get it done...the burden is on you to be creative. There is not much formal training beyond job basics. You have to be resourceful and a good self manager in every role here. And you can't have thin skin. If you're not cutting it, be prepared to hear about it. You'll have a chance to get back on track and some support, but you have to get past any anxiety and just show results.

    Advice to Management

Slow down (a little). It takes more to execute the changes and innovations you want than it did a year ago.

    Pros

-No cap on vacation or sick days (although you will be made to feel guilty when you take it) -Can make good money if you are lucky enough to be placed in a decent market (although all markets are going downhill)

    Cons

-Immense pressure to hit unrealistic sales goals -Management out of touch with what's going on during phone calls (it's getting harder and harder to close deals as more and more people don't want to work with Groupon) -Used to be a fun culture. Now it's all about the bottom line and feels like your typical call center -Sales staff are worked to the bone

    Advice to Management

Understand that selling Groupon is not as easy as it was 1-2 years ago. Employees are incentivized to structure deals that hurt businesses because it will help the employee hit their unrealistic GP goal and make them money. There are a lot of businesses that hate Groupon because of this and the # is only going up... The company has taken a humongous nose dive since Margo (COO) came over from Google and the IPO was announced.
