Tons of fun, but horrible hours and very low pay.

Pros

Tons of fun. I made some amazing friends while working for Guided Discoveries. I am still close with several of them. My co-workers were some of the best people I have met.

Cons

Hours are horrible and inconsistent for instructors, and some of the other positions aren't much better. Pay is very low, though room and board is included so it keeps your costs down. Management dealt with issues (even SAFETY issues) if and when they felt like it. Employees who were not upper management are tossed to the curb if they are injured or would like to have a family status other than 'single'.

    Pros

The office environment (beach, mountains, or tall ship) is far from lacking. In and outside of work their are constant opportunities to grow oneself after leaving college. This is an ideal place for working before acceptance to grad school or other academic programs.

The workers attracted to these places have all been very friendly and open, with shared housing and meals provided there are many opportunities to get to know your coworkers.

    Cons

There is little room for advancement. Management positions rarely open up and once they do, they do not always promote for merit alone. Due to the close living quarters, eating arrangements and work schedules only those who fit in the best will be staying long.
