Horrible Place to Work

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Westlake Village, Los Angeles, CA

I worked at Guitar Center full-time for less than a year

Pros

They had great discounts for their employees.

Cons

There was no leadership or guidance in my job. There were a lot of politics in my department...a lot of cliques. It was a very immature place to work. They gave me a boss that had no clue what my job entailed. I would never go back. The worst job in my life!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you hire people, make sure they have someone to lead them and train them properly.

I have been working at Guitar Center part-time for less than a year

    Pros

It is a very fun and enjoyable place to work. If you play an instrument or are in a band it vastly opens your connections to many venues. It's also not too difficult

    Cons

The way you actually make commission (fading) I would work in one of the departments that has a lot of traffic flow so you can actually get a decent commission check. You also have to be on top of your department in the sense that it is essentially competing for customers to do business with you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the way people make commission. I understand that as a salesmen you "reap what you sew" but fading is awful in departments that have very little customers.
