Good for skill development, but engineers pushed to exhaustion and atmosphere overly focused on competition.

I have been working at Gulfstream Aerospace full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Lots of opportunity for working on a wide variety of projects. Work on leading-edge business jet technology. Most engineers are highly motivated and competent. Good compensation and benefits.

Cons

Overloaded with projects with unrealistic deadlines. Manifested in high stress levels, health problems, broken marriages. Overly schedule- and cost-driven. Competitive, rather than service-oriented, atmosphere. Rigid working hours.

Advice to Management

Reduce turnover by serving and respecting employees as people, rather than as means to an end. Focus on quality and set realistic program schedules.

I have been working at Gulfstream Aerospace full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fair compensation compared to other companies in the Savannah, GA area - you can actually live very comfortably and not paycheck to paycheck; paid weekly; and great training for new employees, to include more training and education options to enhance your current knowledge and improve your work performance.

    Cons

Can be a pro and con; HR is highly selective of applicants which can be good in ensuring the company hires high-quality employees; the downfall to this is they prevent the hiring managers from being able to sort through some applicants that may be highly-desirable; at times they can be a little over the top! Let the hiring managers do some of the decision-making! Some people just look good on paper!

I worked at Gulfstream Aerospace full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

VERY good end products. Best in the industry.

    Cons

Difficult environment if your looking for "best in class" processes. Progress is slow when it comes to workplace technology. IT is very much like Dilberts "technology inhibitors". HR adds a lot of red tape to the hiring process. They somehow think that they know who you need better than you do as the hiring manager.

    Advice to Management

Get realistic about IT budgets and the need to invest in technology.
