Current Employee - Premium Tax Preparer in Washington, DC
Current Employee - Premium Tax Preparer in Washington, DC

I have been working at H&R Block part-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

There is a lot of flexibility to the job. Since I am a Premium tax preparer, I can set the hours that I work. The money is good for a part time job.

Cons

The job is a seasonal job, and the employee is rehired for each tax season. The hours are very long.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide compensation for second looks and 1040ezs.

I worked at H&R Block part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

You pick your own hours. You only work seasonally, unless you opt to get hired year-round. Seemingly endless opportunity for education for just $20/year.

    Cons

Starting salary is pretty low. It's not hidden from you, and the incentive is that you make more as you continue to grow your client list, become able to work faster, and to do more complex returns.

Current Employee - CSL in Kirkwood, MO

I have been working at H&R Block as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The Tax Professionals are knowledgeable and care about their clients. The Office Manager's and Client Service Professionals (work at front desk) are trained to assist every client in a friendly manner.

    Cons

No job security - new CEO every year, Regional and District Managers change every year. Computer programs aren't ready for the tax season to begin in either Dec. or Jan. Serving the needs of the client don't always seem to be the top priority - raising prices so share holders can get bigger return.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop increasing prices. With you offering an online software program you will soon make it unaffordable for clients to come into the office. Pay your office staffs what they are worth. If you offer FREE 1040EZ and Second Looks you need to compensate your workers for this. Office Managers or CSL should be year round position. Marketing should be done all year round..
