I have been working at HDR

Pros

Good working enviorment, good people, Smart buisness plan. The company tries to be transparent with its emloyees about the direction its heading.

Cons

Large Company makes it feel like you can get lost in the company. I think the management tries to fix this issue, but I dont think you can remove the big company feel completely.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The most important thing that leadership can keep in mind is that the technical people are the ones producing the product being sold. I think it is important to be mindful of that.

    I worked at HDR

    Pros

Employee ownership created an environment in which nearly all staff felt they were owners even if they did not elect to participate in the ESOP

    Cons

Fields of work were very "stove piped" with little or no movement across specialty areas to create hybrid capabilities and stronger teams.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company strategic plan and progress during the year was availble in a web based format. Content was limited to "on plan / improvement needed / etc." Add simple economic measures if possible.

    - More linkage between their superior Senior Management team with Mid Level Managers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Figure out additional ways to measure value outside of utilization
    - Work to diminish the Professional Engineer dominate culture
