I have been working at HMA (Honda Manufacturing of Alabama)

Pros

- Good pay for the location
- Great benefits
- Easy to shine if you have the ability to build relationships and are a hard worker with some intelligence
- Pride in Honda name
- Definitely not uptight work environment (can be fun actually)
- I like the people I work with
- Hopeful of future improvements

Cons

- Lots of fingerpointing and backbiting
- Terrible relationships between departments
- I don't understand alot of Senior Level management decisions and they don't explain them well
- Vertical growth (promotions) are limited and often the decisions seem questionable
- Not much flexibility if you're on the assembly line
- Very little accountability
- Seemingly, simple changes take way too long (if they happen at all)
- There is definitely a "Grass is Greener" syndrome here. Not much appreciate for what we have, only what others perceive is better somewhere else.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

React more quickly to concerns, particularly those involving associate morale. Hold management team more accountable. Management team needs to hold their team more accountable. Reward individuals who make a difference. Correct or dismiss those who are not having a positive impact. Quit shuffling incapable managers around and terminate them. Learn what works at other high morale companies and invest into improving morale. Finally, major reconstruction is needed in order to improve accountablity and speed up problem solving. There is too much division between departments and it is too easy to finger point and deflect responsibilities.

Good job for mindless drones, willing to conform

I worked at HMA (Honda Manufacturing of Alabama)

    Pros

Pay is good, but once you are topped out don't expect much more. Medical/dental are free to single associates, minimal for family coverage.

    Cons

Good job if you value money more than your happiness or sanity. Employee morale is the lowest I have seen at any company. Not much chance for diversity here. If you don't conform, you will be worked harder than those who brown nose or are "buds" with the team coordinator. The management is a joke and needs constant reminding of who has the power. Constantly shifting employees and process duties at a whim so that you are never quite sure what your process involves. This is usually done with the front that another zone can't keep up. In reality, it is an attempt by those associates to make their jobs easier. In most departments, it is necessary to come back early from break/lunch and do prep work off the clock so that you are ready for the assembly line that always starts up to the minute when 10 min break or 30 min lunch is over. Overtime is announced 5 or 10 minutes before quitting time, leaving you no choice but to work over or get points for leaving early. Better to make arrangements beforehand, just in case. Rotating shifts stinks. A lot of personal lives are in the crapper after working here. Expect to be on the assembly line for life unless you are part of the good ol boy network. DO NOT look to receive honest feedback at your performance review or be recognized for doing a good job. If you are caught trying to change the way employees are treated or suggest ways to boost employee morale, you will be targeted and blacklisted with the management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give credit where credit is due. Don't try to use power for your own lack of self esteem
