Current Employee - Line Cook in Portland, OR

I have been working at HMSHost full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The only pros I can think of is a free meal as long as its not over $12
Parking is free for airport employees

    Cons

Lack of communication from upper level managers.
    Atmosphere of distrust and fear.
Hiring people, that don't have the proper skill set to do the job that are hired for
Lack or NO cooperation from upper management
They need to update their employee handbook and keep it in an easily accessible
area so that you can review it from time to time

Job performance reviews should be done every 6mos not once a year
Raises should be based on job performance and longevity with the company
The employee (associate) handbook should be used as a guide for training and evaluating employees instead at times it used as a tool to unfairly punish them

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your employees, treat them with respect we are not the enemy!
If your employees live in a constant state of fear and you distrust them
they will NOT be productive their attitudes will be negatively affected and
it will effect YOUR bottom line.

This company has one of the HIGHEST turnover rates for employees that I have ever
worked for. It costs more to train new employees then it is to keep current ones on the pay roll. Compensate us with decent raises when our job reviews comes around not the percentage based ones that you ALWAYS give.

There has to be better job incentives to work for you. Other companies value hard working
dedicated workers that are proud and would recommend this or that employer to their friends
and family. I wouldn't recommend to ANY of my friends or family to work for this company.

You also need to look at Health insurance costs. There are other providers out there
that provide a lower cost to your employees. The per paycheck cost for the health care provider that this company has is WAYYY to high. Look into other providers that are more affordable.

There are companies that are leaving you in the dust as as ones to work for.
Keep your head in the sand, don't compensate them properly, don't treat your employees
with respect and compassion, have your employees fear you, don't provide them with
better perks and incentives to stay. THEY WILL STAY AWAY IN DROVES!

    You need to have

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
