    Pros

When business is good and projects are coming in, you get to work with talented, hardworking people.

    Cons

In recent staff meetings, CEO Patrick MacLeamy confessed to top management "getting sloppy" over the last few years about reining in costs and bringing in enough new business. That's now translated into multiple rounds of staff layoffs. Right now, everyone is scared, overworked and trying to survive. Different office locations and even managers within the same location are not unified and often fight among themselves over who is responsible for what. Even though the corporate message is that HOK is a family and a great long term place to work, the reality is far different. Priority is given to keeping the top long-term management well compensated and the small group of "invitation only" shareholders involved.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like the valuable assets they are instead of financial drains on your bottom line. Don't ask the people that do good work for you to pay for management's excesses and failures in judgement.
