Current Employee - Premier Associate in Swansea, Wales (UK)

I have been working at HSBC Holdings full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Genuinely tries to put customer first. Sincere desire among management to develop each individual. Well structured management makes for effective leadership and direct accountability.

    Cons

Relative success during financial crisis has lead to hubristic top down reforms - removing a layer of management in the name of efficiency, has shaken the confidence of many loyal and competent staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate slogans and buzzwords are useless without action.

I worked at HSBC Holdings full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The benefits are pretty good. Provides health insurance and stock purchase at a discount.
Work life balance is decent, but largely depending on manager.
A lot of day offs provided per year, even for new employees.
Training is pretty good. A lot of classes offered both technical and non technical.
Employee engagement is good, senior management is trying its best to listen to the low level employees and hear them out.
Fellow employees are pretty friendly and easy to get along with. There is not much cut throat competition.
HSBC offers special banking benefits to employees.

    Cons

Promotions is biased. It is based on who brown noses the best and favoritism rather than on merit.
A lot of the managers do not know anything about what they are managing thus making a big joke of everything and leaving everything for the analysts to figure out.
Some managers are strict about taking day offs. Thus negating the purpose of having a lot of day offs.
Cafeteria food is overpriced and inedible. Work location is in the middle of nowhere - long commute times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix promotions. Do not be biased.
